2008 Olympics

I am not much of a TV watcher except right now. I must confess that every night that I have been at home since August 8th I have been glued to NBC until the late hours of the night. There is something so fascinating to me about the olympics. I don't usually like to watch track or swimming or gymnastics or ping pong or diving but in the olympics I hate to miss them. I have even signed up for text message alerts for certain events that I don't want to miss.

Did you know that you can actually see a lot of events that are not televised online at nbcolympics.com. I have been able to see the Redeem Team play a bit on there since I have not caught them on TV. I think the fascination comes from knowing that in every event we are watching the best of the best in the whole world compete for a few moments in something they spend their entire lives training for. I love the fact that men and women come from nations all over the World in one city to give their best for their country.

And, I have often thought amidst international competition of the greats and national anthems being played of how big GOD is....He has led me to spend some time on Isaiah 40 meditating on it consistently over the past several weeks.

15Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket,
   and are accounted as the dust on the scales;
   behold, he takes up the coastlands like fine dust.
16Lebanon would not suffice for fuel,
   nor are its beasts enough for a burnt offering.
17All the nations are as nothing before him,
   they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness.

---and---

21Do you not know? Do you not hear?
   Has it not been told you from the beginning?
   Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
22It is he who sits above the circle of the earth,
   and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers;
    who stretches out the heavens like a curtain,
   and spreads them like a tent to dwell in;
23who brings princes to nothing,
   and makes the rulers of the earth as emptiness.

Billions watch the greatest sporting event of all and I am reminded that compared to our great GOD this is all nothing! He is great in power, great in holiness, his judgement will be complete and I am so thankful for how far reaching His grace is....to rescue sinners who were doomed and bring us back into never ending fellowship with Him. If you have been born again, you are His child; his people. So think about our role as His own in His created world that is dark and lost...

9Get you up to a high mountain,
   O Zion, herald of good news;
lift up your voice with strength,
   O Jerusalem, herald of good news;
   lift it up, fear not;
say to the cities of Judah,
   "Behold your God!"

more to come...
