So, it was great. Last year our students responded well to Student Life Camp at Daytona Beach. Who wouldn't, right? Well, I was concerned that they would possibly be disappointed since this year we went to LA Tech. But, we did a mission camp. We had the opportunity to minister to kids from inner city West Monroe. They absolutely ate up the love that our students showed them.
The students had the opportunity not only to love and play with them, but to share the gospel with several of them. The day camp we helped with was not a "Christian camp." It is a government funded camp that is held at two locations in West Monroe - the Community Center and Riser Elementary. We were at both sites for 3 days. Before going I gave each of the students something called a "flipper-flapper" that I got from a friend with Child Evangelism Fellowship.
check it out here...
I gave the students instructions on how to use this tool to share the gospel with kids. I wasn't sure how they would respond.
[By the way, this is the same tool I will be using in Haiti 7/29 - 8/5 to share with kids in the communities. I have a friend who is translating a quick gospel presentation into Creole that Melissa and I will memorize....pray for us!]
Our students did share the gospel with the kids and they were amazed at how much that little tool peaked the interest of the kids (Good job CEF!). One seven year old girl told one of our girls that she understood and wanted to ask forgiveness for her sins and give her life to Jesus...Praise God! We are praying for her and will try to make contact...
God moved in the hearts of students and all said they enjoyed the camp in Ruston MORE than last years at Daytona Beach! Wow...
"It is more blessed to give than to recieve." Have you ever truly experienced the reality of this truth in your own life?
What a great thing it was to recieve the gospel and then eternal life! But, have you experienced what it is like to give it to others? That is the stuff our life should be made of. Heaven awaits us, but eternity is already in motion for those of us who know Christ. We remain here on earth...alive...because people need to hear and see the Christ and his gospel.
watch our camp video... (sorry we didn't have the best camera...)
